UPROXX 20: Maria Thayer Will Gift You A Cheesy Self-Help Book When You Go Through A Breakup

Maria Thayer is an actress perhaps best known for starring on Adult Smim’s Eagleheart. You may have also seen her on shows like Arrested Development, Review, Portlandia, Kroll Show, Louie, New Girl, Maron, and Married, among others. You may have also seen her in films like Forgetting Sarah Marshall and State of Play. Currently, she stars on truTV’s new comedy, Those Who Can’t (created by Arrested Development co-executive producer Dean Lorey.)

Maria was nice enough to take a few minutes out of her busy schedule recently to answer a few questions from us.

1. You walk into a bar. What do you order from the bartender?

Club soda, extra-dirty.

2. Who’s your favorite person to follow on Twitter and/or Instagram?

The Unites States Treasury Department.

3. What’s currently waiting for you on your DVR?

A bowl of unfinished oatmeal.

4. It’s your last meal — what are you going out with?

Hot fudge sundae all the way. And because there are no guarantees in this life, and you never know when your time is up, I have them with some regularity.

5. What websites do you visit on a regular basis?

Ebay. I’m in a plaid wool skirt worm hole right now.

6. What’s the most frequently played song on your mobile device?

I’m not sure, but it’s probably something Neil Diamond related.

7. The first face that comes to mind when you think “punchable”?

I don’t like violence, but I will tell you has the most SHAVEABLE face. Fidel Castro.

8. What’s the last thing you Googled?

Fidel Castro beard.

9. Dogs or cats?

Depends on the dog or cat. I don’t see pet species. I judge them on their personality!

10. Best concert of your life was…?

Tom Waits. My friend Mia and I snuck down from our nosebleed seats and snagged an empty seat (which we shared) behind Keith Richards. Also, Tom Waits was amazing.

11. What book are you most likely to give as a gift?

I have given out quite a few copies of Housekeeping by Marilynne Robinson. Also, Tenth of December by George Saunders. There is also a cheesy self help book I give to everyone that I love that’s having a break up, but it’s too embarrassing to tell you about.

12. What’s the nicest thing anyone has ever done for you?

So many people have done so many nice things for me. I’m grateful for being able to perform for a living, for how my mom raised me…

13. South Park or Family Guy?

Seeing as how I’m on a show set in Colorado, I have to go South Park. But also, write-in vote for The Simpsons.

14. You have an entire day to do whatever you want. What would you do?

Read.

15. What movie can you not resist watching if it’s on?

I will always watch Shawshank Redemption if I come across it. Which has ruined a lot of plans since it’s 3 hours long.

16. The sports team or teams you’re most passionate about?

Harlem Globetrotters. (I hate losing.)

17. Where did you eat the best meal of your life?

Trois Mec in Hollywood was so good I literally cried during the meal. Also, my brother is a brilliantly talented chef at Plonk in Missoula. He has made me many amazing meals.

18. The last movie you saw in a theater?

Star Wars. I went with my family, who are big Star Wars fans. We really relate to it.

19. Who was your first celebrity crush?

Hefty Smurf, and he’s still got it. That’s completely true by the way.

20. What would you cook if Nic Cage was coming to your house for dinner?

Hot fudge sundaes. Just in case he poisons me. (see above)
