Michael Bolton Made A ‘Sexy’ Valentine’s Day Special With The Lonely Island

With new stand-up comedy specials by Late Late Show bandleader Reggie Watts and American Housewife star Ali Wong, Netflix released the most diverse array of comedy films in 2016. And with industry giants like Dave Chappelle lining up to do the same in 2017, the following year’s crop of new specials is bound to be even better. Case in point: Michael Bolton’s Big, Sexy Valentine’s Day Special, a new variety feature starring the titular singer and co-directed by Akiva Schaffer, who co-wrote and co-directed Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping with fellow The Lonely Island members Andy Samberg and Jorma Taccone. Yes, that’s right — The Lonely Island made a Valentine’s Day special with the guy who sang “How Can We Be Lovers?”

According to an official press release, Michael Bolton’s Big, Sexy Valentine’s Day Special will follow the pop star while he tries to create a variety show whose sole purpose to help people get it on. Punctuated by the kinds of “absurdist adventures” fans of Schaffer’s The Lonely Island trio and co-director Scott Aukerman’s Comedy Bang! Bang! know and love, Bolton will perform numerous love songs composed of his greatest hits, as well as some “all-new original love-making music” written just for the special. Along with Samberg and Taccone, guest stars Casey Wilson, Chris Parnell, Eric Andre, Fred Armisen, Maya Rudolph, Michael Sheen, Randall Park and Sarah Silverman will help Bolton out along the way.

Michael Bolton’s Big, Sexy Valentine’s Day Special will stream exclusively on Tuesday, February 7th on Netflix. Until then, you’ll just have to woo your Christmas cuddle buddy with “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You” on an endless loop. It totally works! (No really, it does. Kind of.)
