NBC to Make Cop Show Starring Ethan Hawke & Vincent D’Onofrio

NBC will make a cop drama starring Ethan Hawke and the always-excellent Vincent D’Onofrio. Sadly, against my wishes, it will be called “Blue Tilt,” and not the much-catchier “Hawke & D’Onofrio.”

The show will star Hawke and D’Onofrio as two seasoned homicide detectives — one married and one divorced — as they solve cases while dealing with their wives/ex-wives and kids. The title Blue Tilt refers to a cop term for homicide detectives who, as a result of dealing with particularly brutal crimes, become a danger to themselves and are put under psychiatric observation. I hear that the pilot is targeted for a production start by the end of the year in New York where both Hawke and D’Onofrio live. [Deadline]

The show is created by Chris Brancato, who previously worked with D’Onofrio as the showrunner for “Law & Order: Criminal Intent.” I was never much of a “CI” fan, but it was usually worth it to see D’Onofrio chew scenery and break down suspects with mind games. As for Hawke, I don’t know what he’s supposed to do. Smoke PCP and watch Denzel screw Eva Mendes, I hope.
