NBC’s Next Live Musical Has Found Its Peter Pan: ‘Girls’ Star Allison Williams

A few weeks back, NBC announced that Christopher Walken will play Captain Hook in the network’s latest live musical ***event*** thingy, Peter Pan Live. While many influential entertainment writers (me) initially hoped that the production would just be two hours of Walken alone on stage in full pirate costume singing and dancing while looking directly into the camera, it appears NBC has decided to go ahead and cast other roles, including the titular Pan. Enter Girls star Allison Williams, stage left, swinging from some wires:

“I have wanted to play Peter Pan since I was about three years old, so this is a dream come true,” said Williams in a press statement. “It’s such an honor to be a part of this adventure, and I’m very excited to get to work with this extraordinarily talented team. And besides, what could go wrong in a live televised production with simultaneous flying, sword fighting and singing?” [EW]

I suppose this is where one would make a joke about setting the whole thing in Brooklyn and casting Lena Dunham as Tinkerbell, or point out that Allison Williams’s father is NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams and cry nepotism. You’re free to do that if you like. Me, I just want it on the record that this whole shebang has the potential to be a glorious catastrophe, thanks mainly to the presence of the wires that Allison Williams will be using to fly. We’ve seen this kind of thing go wrong on a live NBC production once before.
