Negan And Lucille Finally Get Their Backstory In ‘The Walking Dead’

Finally, after nearly fifty issues of wondering what made Negan the Negan we love to hate, Image and The Walking Dead are diving into his backstory. Through Image+, a monthly preview catalog for the comic book publisher, creator Robert Kirkman and artist Charlie Adlard are going to piece together a 48-page origin of Negan 4 pages at a time.

Obviously, this is a big deal. Negan may be the most prolific doer of awful things that Rick’s band of survivors has ever run into, and his bat – Lucille – deserves her own origin story as well.

The Hollywood Reporter got a look at the first page of the backstory, and it shows Negan and Lucille fireside, with Negan wrapping her in barbed wire.

Of course, we don’t know how long ago this was in the timeline of the apocalypse, but by looking at the final frame, it seems like Negan has already fallen into darkness. Unless he was always dark (despite being a relatively jokey type).

Hopefully this extended flashback finds its way into being adapted for the Walking Dead TV show, which could possibly show it in its entirety well before the series catches up to the comic in regards to the main storyline.
