Netflix Is Finally Allowing You To Download Their Shows And Movies

We’ve all been there: you’re streaming Orange Is the New Black or Stranger Things or Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (for a third time) while riding the subway, or in the backseat of a car, when suddenly, boom, you lose the internet connection. That’s not a problem any longer: Netflix is, as promised, finally letting you download certain shows and movies for off-line viewing.

According to a press release:

Many of your favorite streaming series and movies are already available for download, with more on the way, so there is plenty of content available for those times when you are offline. For example, Orange is The New Black, Narcos, and The Crown are available for download today. (Via)

Eddy Wu, Netflix’s director of product innovation, said the downloads feature, which Amazon Prime Video debuted last year, was introduced because “while many members enjoy watching Netflix at home, we’ve often heard they also want to continue their Stranger Things’ binge while on airplanes and other places where internet is expensive or limited.” There’s no need to make awkward chit-chat with strangers while 40,000 feet in the air ever again. BoJack Horseman season three is the only company you need.

The feature is currently available through the Netflix app for all plans.
