‘SNL’ Adds Writer Mikey Day To The Cast For Season 42

Noted Gilly enablers Saturday Night Live have undergone a bit of a roster shuffle as season 42 looms. Veteran cast members Taran Killam and Jay Pharoah are out (same with not-so-veteran featured player Jon Rudnitsky) and now comes word of a new addition to the Peacock Network staple.

SNL writer Mikey Day has been tapped to join this season’s cast. He’s the gentleman being cradled in the loving arms of John Cena in the picture above. You may recognize Day from his on-screen work on Maya & Marty, Nick Cannon Presents: Wild ‘N Out, and the U.S. adaptation of Kath & Kim you had Men In Black-ed out your brain. The 36-year-old comedian has written at SNL since 2013 and co-penned the comedy Brother Nature along with Taran Killam.

For a brief spell, it looked like SNL had also hired Chris Redd to come aboard. Sadly for Redd (and for those of us that thought he was awesome in Popstar) that hiring news was incorrect. At the moment, NBC has only officially confirmed that Day will be joining the cast.

How do you feel heading into the 42nd go-around of SNL? Are you happy with the current incarnation of the show? Also, if you’re hosting the premiere on October 1, please tell us. It’d be super convenient for everyone involved.
