How ‘The Simpsons’ Kind Of Predicted ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ In 2009

Throw this one on the pile of all the times The Simpsons predicted the future (including President Donald Trump potentially being the great downfall of our country). The above screenshot surfaced on Imgur early Monday morning, taken from a 2009 episode of the 21st season of The Simpsons titled “Homer the Whopper,” written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, of all people. In the episode, the Comic Book Guy pens his own comic about an average guy who has the ability to absorb the super powers of super heroes in comic books that he touches. The comic becomes a hit and is quickly adapted into a movie, starring Homer Simpson, naturally.

Which leads us to the image from the episode, outside of “Ginormous Pictures,” the fictional production company which bought the rights to the Comic Book Guy’s comic. Okay, so Episode VII of Star Wars was not titled “The Apology” and did not feature Jar Jar Binks (nor did the latest installment of The Chipmunks involve any of the titular Chipmunks actually getting rabies), but given the timing that both films were released the same weekend (Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip also came out Friday), you have to admit that it’s pretty uncanny, no? For the record: We would definitely watch a Chipmunks movie if the Chipmunks came down with rabies.
