Another day and another possible signal from Dwyane Wade that his time in Miami might be coming to an end. Wade’s father showed up and spoke at church wearing a Cleveland Cavaliers t-shirt, causing tongues to wag about what it all means.
Is Dwyane Wade trolling the Heat? Needling them because he wants the Kobe-contract from them and they don’t want to do it? Is Wade seriously contemplating leaving the team and moving on? After all, the Cavs have been floated as a potential landing spot by the NBA After Dark crew and Pardon The Interruption’s Tony Kornheiser.
Heat fans were already getting a little anxious over the possibility of Wade leaving with the “clues” Wade was leaving recently. Like Wade talking in past tense about his time with the team, or his son capturing him singing Rihanna’s “B**ch Better Have My Money” and posting it to Snapchat with the caption “Dedicated to the heat.” The video was later removed, but the message was pretty clear. And now Dwyane’s father rocking a Cleveland Cavaliers t-shirt on Father’s Day.
What does it all mean? Dwyane Wade wants to get paid a lot of money for perceived sacrifices he believes he made the past few seasons. You know, the few million each year in salary he sacrificed for LeBron and Chris Bosh to come to Miami. It could be relinquishing his role as the alpha male on the Heat to LeBron, or how he sacrificed playing in many of the Heat’s regular season games so he could rest for the playoffs. (The last part didn’t work out so well.)
In the end, the team and Wade will come together on a deal because they have very few other options this summer. So let’s all sit back and watch the troll show Wade is putting on, even if we know how it ends.
