Watch Chris Paul Perform New Edition’s ‘Candy Girl’ On ‘Lip Sync Battle’

The NBA playoffs did not go particularly well for Chris Paul. His Los Angeles Clippers were surprisingly eliminated in the first round by the Portland Trailblazers, thanks, in part, to a broken hand that Paul suffered, which cost him to miss the deciding game. However, now you can take a look at a better, happier time for Chris Paul — a time when he was lip-syncing to “Candy Girl” by New Edition.

You can watch a clip of Paul’s performance, which comes from Spike TV’s Lip Sync Battle. Paul will be taking on Snoop Dogg, who would seem to have an advantage, considering that he is an actual musician, but he’s clearly giving it his all on the stage. Paul’s weapon of choice is the song that put New Edition, which included Bobby Brown, Bell, Biv, and DeVoe, on the map in 1983 (we did not forget you, Ralph Tresvant). Paul, and his backup dancers, are dressed in the style of the era, to try and give it an authentic look. As for Paul’s performance, well… he has the stage presence of a guy who makes his living as a professional athlete, as opposed to an entertainer. Hey, at least the effort is there.

If you want to see whether Paul, in front of his friends DeAndre Jordan and Josh Smith, takes down Snoop Dogg, you’ll have to check Lip Sync Battle out Thursday.
