Shortly after the news that Captain America 3 is in the works, Marvel has released four new posters and more pictures from Captain America: The Winter Soldier (trailer here, F*CK YEAH version here). The pictures include our first look at Batroc the Leaper, but before we get to that, let’s just get the silly photoshop “controversy” out of the way.
Some people have been complaining about Scarlett Johansson’s poster:
I like this poster, in that it reminds me of classical paintings, with aircraft in the background standing in for birds and cherubs floating behind an angelic-looking yet determined Black Widow. Nonetheless, some have a problem with it. One of the most popular criticisms came from awesomely-named The Magna Farta, where this picture has over 60K reblogs and likes.
Did they photoshop her waist to appear smaller? Maybe. On the other hand, tilting your hips slightly can make your waist appear thinner, and that’s exactly how she’s standing. Even though we love a kerfuffle, this one — unlike Johansson — doesn’t have much in the way of legs.
Moving on, the new pictures gave us this first look at Batroc the Leaper, played by UFC champion Georges St-Pierre. Better luck next time, Jean-Claude Van Damme.
Awww, he doesn’t have the epic mustache. Anyway, Badass Digest says he’ll be showing up “in the movie’s opening scene, where Cap jumps out of a plane without a parachute and then takes down a boat full of baddies. From the footage I’ve seen it’s going to be amazing.”
We’ll probably have a little more on Batroc later today, and we’ll post the Captain America: The Winter Soldier Super Bowl spot as soon as we can. In the meantime, here’s a 16-second teaser for the Super Bowl spot, as well as the new posters and pictures. So much brooding, you guys.
That’s Robert Redford in the background, not a Strutting Leo meme added by us afterwards, I promise.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier opens April 4th.
Pictures via First Showing, CBM, The Magna Farta, and The Playlist.
We were doing so well, too. Well, up until we knew for a fact Falcon had a crappy sense of style.
Also, what’s up with Cap’s shield in that shot with BatROC ze Le-Pair? I’m sure it’ll be answered, but I wanna see some off the wall theories.
It’s a set photo, not the finished version of the scene.
So does anybody have a problem with Captain America’s shoulders being widened, or his prominent jaw and cheek bones mimicking the shape of the abs sewn into his costume. Or better yet how about that slut Winter Soldier looking back at the camera so we can see his ass AND his side boob. Absolutely deplorable.
I get the sarcasm, but have you seen Evans’ shoulders? Theyre ginormous all on their own. Thats the only realistically ridiculous thing going on here.
What? They’re just trying to capture Rob Liefeld’s vision.
The only thing that looks odd is her right tit. Could be the costume. Whatever.
So what, we should have made a poster that shows off her ass and side boob like every other super hero movie poster featuring a woman? I like the poster, it reminds of you night actually see on a comic.
*what you might see in a comic.
Jesus, TGIF.
I just want to know what she’s looking at.
The photoshop angle is pretty tired. But it’s the pose that’s just a mite ridiculous. Where, except the catwalk or at a fashion shoot, would you pose or walk like that? She has guns drawn and everything – doesn’t she want to get to her target faster?
I’m looking for character motivation in my hip thrusts, people.
Well…At least it’s not the more typical pose for female superheroines, e.g. with her derriere facing out.
Agreed. The Avengers poster was awful, this at least is somewhat straightforward.
“From the studio that brought you Avengers Assemble” um WTF is Avengers Assemble? did they forget that they only named the movie “The Avengers”?
It was called Avengers Assemble in the UK.
And/or it’s apparently a cartoon series.
They changed the name to avoid confusion with these Avengers: [www.bond-girls.net]
Botticelli reference for the win, sir. That’s what I’m going to see when I look at this poster from now on!
The image looks fine.
Generation Selfie notices things and wont stand for it!
As somebody who has spent a lot of time looking at pictures of boobs on the internet, I would say hers do not look right.
Also, the absence of Ze Lepair’s moustache is an absolute crime.
I just checked, and my jaw width/waist width ratio isn’t all that far removed from ScarJo’s here. Like, 3/5.
Geez can we just assume that any woman in a superhero movie poster is automatically going to be photoshopped.
