Joe Manganiello is making a name for himself. He’s already getting a lot of attention for his, erm, “routine” in the Magic Mike XXL trailer. Now he’s about to capture the hearts and minds of audiences in Pee-Wee’s Big Holiday, the Netflix-bound sequel to Pee Wee’s Big Adventure. No word on who he’s playing yet.
Paul Reubens broke the news in character on Pee-Wee’s official blog:
Joe’s already my friend in real life– and he’s tremendously talented and a terrific person! I am so glad we are FINALLY going to get to work together! This totally makes up for being cut out of ‘Magic Mike’ and ‘Magic Mike 2’!”
Manganiello remarked, “Paul Reubens is one of the great comic geniuses of our time. Growing up, my Saturday mornings were all about Pee-wee Herman. I saw everything he did. I can’t believe that I’m going to get to share scenes with one of the iconic figures of my childhood.”
Forgetting for a moment (though hopefully much longer) Pee-Wee’s possible involvement in the Magic Mike series, this means Manganiello will have to do something he hasn’t done much of lately — put on clothes. Sofía Vergara won’t be too happy.
In addition to the casting announcement, Pee-Wee included a few photos from the set:

He tweeted the two above, and they’re kind of adorable. Is it okay that I want a shirted, helmet-wearing Manganiello to give me a big bear hug? Because I do.
