Between the release of FutureSex/LoveSounds and The 20/20 Experience, fans had to wait seven years for a new musical project from Justin Timberlake. Because of the lengthy layover between his last two projects, there has been much speculation about how long we would have to wait until JT would follow-up the massive success his 2013 albums. On Tuesday, we received a concrete answer.
Timberlake will be lending his voice to a character in the upcoming DreamWorks animated film, Trolls, which is scheduled for a Nov. 4 release. In addition to voicing a character named Branch, he will oversee the project’s musical direction as the musical executive producer for both the film and the official soundtrack. The latter includes the megastar writing and performing some original songs for the film, his first since The 20/20 Experience.
“I have always envisioned bringing the two worlds of film and music together for one epic event [and] couldn’t be more excited that they will collide in DreamWorks’ Trolls,” Timberlake told the Hollywood Reporter. We can only hope that in addition to Trolls, JT will continue on with his rumored country album with Timbaland during production. If there’s one thing the entertainment world always needs, it’s more music by Justin Timberlake.
