Last year, 2 Chainz debuted his Dabbin Santa sweaters and ended up having success by creating what’s essentially the rap version of the ugly Christmas sweater. The merch sold like crazy, but the rapper said it was simply a matter of “timing meets opportunity.” How humble of him considering the sweaters supposedly pulled in over $2 million and allowed Chainz to help out several needy families along the way.
For 2016, he’s back with another collection of inspired knitwear plus an even larger goal of helping out as many people as he can with a portion of the proceeds. This time around he’s asking fans to submit stories about people they know are in need. The plan is for the artist and his T.R.U. Foundation to select a handful of those stories and use part of the profits from the sweaters to spread the holiday cheer by offering assistance to individuals who may need a helping hand.
Last year, helping out meant buying a minivan for one family who needed transportation to get their brain-damaged son to hospital visits. They were also able to offer a big assist to a disabled vet by paying her family’s rent for a year.
“The new collection will act as our vehicle to bringing real assistance to people and families that are looking for a little boost this holiday season,” the foundation said in a press release. “Join our movement. Let’s aspire to inspire and bring cheer this holiday season.”
Check out some of the collection below, including the ‘Hit Dem Folks’ version, the ‘Sauce Santa’ and, of course, the original Dabbin’ joint that started the movement. All items are up for sale on 2chainzshop.com and they’re also taking story submissions right here.
