It has been almost 13 years since Kelly Clarkson won the original version of American Idol, and she’s still one of only a couple of winners (shout out to Carrie Underwood) to have any sustained success in the music business. If you needed further proof as to why, check out the cover of Rihanna’s “B*tch Better Have My Money” she recently performed.
Clarkson was appearing on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge when she took on Rihanna’s single, making it her own, even changing the hook from “B*tch better have my money” to “Y’all better have my money.” Clarkson does a good job with it.
With American Idol only having one more season to go before its cancellation, it seems likely that Clarkson will remain one of the rare success stories from the show, and pretty much the only one who didn’t make her name in the realm of country music.
