What do Mastodon and Coldplay have in common?
If you answered that they’ve both done collaborations with Rihanna, you’d be wrong. But if you said Hey, haven’t members of both bands appeared on Game of Thrones?, congrats. Coldplay’s drummer Will Champion had a cameo in the infamous Red Wedding episode, jamming out with the wedding band, as witnessed here:

Sunday night’s excellent “Hardhome” was Mastodon’s time to shine. Band members Brann Dailor, Bill Kelliher and Brent Hinds appeared as Wildlings in the episode’s second half, which featured, among other things — ice zombies, a giant swatting away ice zombies, and then the creation of even more ice zombies. The band was invited to appear by executive producer Dan Weiss, a fan.
Likewise, the band are huge fans of the show, recording a track for the Catch the Thrones Mixtape, Volume II.

It was such an incredible experience to be on set as extras for our collective favorite show Game Of Thrones and to be wildlings murdered and then brought back to life by White Walkers was beyond amazing. I watched my best friends Brent and Bill, murdered right in front of me as I myself was stabbed in the stomach and had my throat slit multiple times, and I didn’t mind at all. It made me love being in Mastodon even more. We are more than privileged and honored to have been a part of one of the greatest stories ever told on film, and the catering wasn’t bad either.
Other musicians to appear on the show are Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol (Season 3’s “The Bear and the Maiden Fair” and Sigur Ros, who performed “The Rains of Castamere” at King Joffrey’s wedding in Season 4’s “The Lion and the Rose.” The National also recorded a version of “The Rains of Castamere” and the Hold Steady recorded “The Bear and the Maiden Fair,” which appeared over the end credits of the episode of the same title.
