Albert Hammond, Jr. almost certainly wants us to stop thinking of him in terms of his band The Strokes, but he’s not doing himself any favors with his new song “Side Boob.”
The track from his upcoming album Momentary Masters is all angular guitars and tight melodies dropped straight from the post-punk revival of the early aughts.
The bright and rocking song closes out an album about a pretty sad subject. According to an interview with Stereogum, Masters is all about the death of a friend who Hammond had known for all of two weeks.
“I spent so long kind of dead. [Now] part of me wants to understand things, part of me wants to try to leave things better than when I came in.”
Hammond has already shared two other tracks from the album, “Born Slippy” and “Losing Touch.” Masters is out July 31 on BMG. Check out the tracklist below.
