Carly Rae Jepsen’s crazy, stupid excellent new album E•MO•TION is out today, making it the perfect time for the Canadian pop singer to perform on… er, Today.
Jepsen performed E•MO•TION singles “I Really Like You” and “Run Away with Me.” She also performed an interesting version of “Call Me Maybe” that stripped the song of a bit of its gloss, and threw in a crunchy guitar for good measure.
“Maybe” was obviously the focal point of the show, but only because most of the world hasn’t given E•MO•TION a solid listen yet. If you can stomach the song after the Maybe-mania of 2012, it’s up top. If not, give the new singles a listen below.

E•MO•TION is unabashedly a pop record, but the subtle influence of the indie svengalis she recruited is obvious. The sweetness of tracks like “Call Me Maybe” is still there, but it’s been lowered to less nauseating levels. Where Kiss felt like a manufactured cash-in, E•MO•TION sounds like the music Jepsen wanted to make (which just so happened to be ultra-sweet pop). If you’ve ever wondered what Tiffany or Debbie Gibson would sound like if they came up in the ’90s, grab it as soon as possible.
