The Justin Bieber comeback trail continues. Hot on the heels of his new single, “What Do You Mean,” and the announcement of a week-long residency on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the Canadian pop star performed his collaboration with Skrillex and Diplo, the song of the summer contender, “Where Are Ü Now,” which was followed by “What Do You Mean?” Clearly caught in the moment, Bieber broke down in tears as the performance concluded.
While the singer hasn’t completely stopped giving naysayers easy material — his infamous bare-butt Instagram post comes to mind — he has been on somewhat of a redemption tour in past months. Whether it’s performing Fergie’s “Big Girls Don’t Cry” on Lip Sync Battle, surprising fans with gifts on Ryan Seacrest’s Knock Knock Live, or starring in a recent New York Times feature about “Where Are Ü Now” with Skrillex and Diplo, the Justin Bieber publicity train has been full effect leading up to the rumored November 13th release of his fourth studio album.
It’s too soon to say Bieber has fully turned his career and life around, but one thing’s for sure, he continues to give us reason to watch closely. And if he keeps putting out music like “Where Are Ü Now” and “What Do You Mean,” we’ll be listening, too.
