UPDATE: U2 has responded to the Billboard report by saying that Eagles Of Death Metal will not appear but there will be a different “special guest.”
It’s been three weeks since the Paris nightclub where Eagles of Death Metal were performing was taken hostage as part of a terrorist attack that killed more than 100 and injured hundreds more. Since that attack, the group has returned to their homes and have postponed the rest of their upcoming European tour. U2 singer, Bono, has helped the group in every way possible, no matter how small. The singer bought the band new phones in order to stay in touch with loved ones and help connect with their fans to assure them they’re okay, and even offered EODM the use of their plane if they needed it.
Now Billboard is reporting that Bono, and the rest of U2, have gone one step beyond by inviting the group to come perform a song with them at their upcoming show in Paris. This will be the first time EODM have been onstage since the attacks. The U2 show was originally meant to happen the day after the attacks, November 14, but was postponed for safety reasons. Their upcoming performance will take place December 6 at Paris’ AccorHotels Arena and will include Eagles of Death Metal members singing the last song of U2’s set. Reports have also mentioned that EODM founding member and Queens of the Stone Age frontman, Josh Homme, will be in attendance, as well. Homme was not with the band during the attacks.
Eagles of Death Metal have vowed to finish their tour, which has been postponed to early 2016, and they have also promised to be the first band to play Bataclan once it is reopened.
