It was the donut lick seen round the world.
Last year, Ariana Grande made headlines when she walked into a California donut shop and proceeded to incite chaos by secretly licking some freshly-made pastries and expressing her hatred for America. Unfortunately for the pony-tailed pop singer, her little tongued-tantrum was caught on camera and shared by TMZ, which meant Grande then had to issue a public apology for her actions along with some follow-up “I’m sorry” Youtube videos. In the world of pop star divas, that would’ve been enough, but #Donutgate has come back to haunt the tiny Mariah Carey impersonator thanks to the recent DNC hack.
Along with some shady Bernie Sanders emails, the hack also revealed why Grande, who was in the running to perform for the president at an undisclosed White House gala, didn’t pass the vetting stage. In a series of correspondences between DNC Finance Chair Zachary Allen, a Deputy Compliance Director named Kevin and a White House employee named Bobby Schmuck dated September of last year, the three men have a rather detailed back-and-forth about whether or not Grande’s donut licking scandal has ruined her chances of performing for the president.
Allen first emails both gentlemen, asking if they can vet Grande — though he manages to misspell the singer’s name — and the Deputy Compliance Director quickly shoots the idea down:
Video caught her licking other peoples’ donuts while saying she hates America; Republican Congressman used this video and said it was a double standard that liberals were not upset with her like they are with Trump who criticized Mexicans; cursed out a person on Twitter after that person used an offensive word towards her brother …
Schmuck chimes in with a simple, “Nope, sorry,” just in case his thoughts on the matter were in danger of going unheard. Though the actual conversation over the issue of Grande performing is pretty brief — the decision to reject a celebrity who terrorizes local business owners and spews anti-America hate speech isn’t exactly rocket science — the amount of research that went into Grande’s background and #Donutgate is pretty hilarious, especially the news clipping that claims Grande “maliciously licked” some donuts.
It looks like Ariana Grande is for the DNC what Donald Trump is for the entire Republican party.
