Blake Shelton, renowned country singer and fiancé of Gwen Stefani, said some pretty endearing things about his soon-to-be rockstar wife on Thursday’s Late Night With Seth Meyers, including the fact that they have been getting to know each other’s music over the course of their romance. Shelton has been surprised and starry-eyed more than a few times upon realizing that Stefani is the voice behind some of his favorite mainstream songs.
While sipping on own line of signature vodka and Sprite Zero, he summed up an anecdote to the talk-show host with his signature good old Oklahoma drawl to tell him about another naive, starstruck moment:
“About a month ago, she flew into Oklahoma and I was driving to pick her up at the airport. I was flipping through XM Radio and I stopped on this song and I thought… well, this voice sounds like Gwen. What in the hell is this? Why don’t I know this? And it was a song called ‘It’s My Life’ which was, you know, a huge record for them. And I’m going, whoa, holy hell! I didn’t know Gwen sang that song!”
“It’s My Life” is actually a Talk Talk cover, but obviously, the 2000s version left more of an impact. The If I’m Honest star also didn’t know that No Doubt sang “Hey Baby,” meaning he was possibly under the country version of a rock during the early ’00s. Either way, it seems that it’s worked out well for the two now.
