A little while ago, Mark Hoppus, of Blink-182 fame, joined Mumford & Sons to play a cover of “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” by The Eurythmics. It was a nice little bit of musical non sequitur, an odd combination of musicians playing an unexpected cover song. Well, Hoppus, Mumford, and his sons joined together for another performance, this one even more unusual than the last.
This time, at a private KROQ show, Hoppus and Mumford & Sons were joined by Tom Morello, guitar virtuoso of Rage Against the Machine fame, and also T-Bone Burnett, the country and folk musician known primarily for his work on movie and TV soundtracks these days. Needless to say, it’s an odd combination to see together performing.
Fortunately, in order to avoid anybody’s head from exploding in surprise, they chose to play Blink-182’s breakout hit “What’s My Age Again?” It’s not the greatest of performances, and it’s almost as if these guys were just goofing around and hadn’t put a lot of thought into the performance. However, for sheer novelty, it’s worth checking out, even if there are those of us who aren’t necessarily the biggest fans of this song or the band behind it. But to hear Tom Morello play guitar on a Blink-182 song is worth it.
