Scrape some money together, book a flight to Vegas, and make sure you have Britney Spears’ greatest hits downloaded for the plane ride, because the princess of pop is wrapping up her popular and long-running Las Vegas residency in the near future. According to Spears’ publicist, who confirmed the news to The Hollywood Reporter, Brit Brit is ending her “Piece of Me” tour in December 2016 after a successful three year run. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean she will leave Las Vegas for her next career move.
Britney’s contract with Caesar’s Entertainment, which owns the Axis where her show takes place, is up on December 31st but that doesn’t mean she’s getting out of Vegas permanently. Her manager Larry Rudolph says of her next steps,
“We are done with this show, and our next move is undecided. We are still talking with Caesars Entertainment and other interested parties in Las Vegas. Anything is possible. We have made zero decisions. We expect a lot of interest from all parties. Britney basically sells out every show, and she loves Las Vegas, she loves performing in Vegas, and Vegas is a possibility going forward.”
Spears has experienced a career resurgence ever since she set up shop at the Axis, which allowed her to sell out shows in weeks-long spurts before taking mini-breaks to devote as much time as possible with her two sons. The residency attracted fans of all sorts, from life-long Britney stans to various celebrities, giving people a chance to see Britney perform her greatest hits without having to spend a fortune on tickets for the concert closest to their homes.
Her manager also hinted at a different residency in another Vegas casino, a full-on tour (assumedly more feasible now that her boys are a little older), or even an album follow-up to 2016’s well-accepted Glory. Whatever comes next, it’s safe to say Britney will be able to sell out those shows just as easily as she’s been selling out her time in Las Vegas.
