If you heard that Bruce Springsteen had performed a two-hour set, you wouldn’t be surprised. In fact, you might wonder why he cut it so short. However, when Bruce Springsteen appears unannounced at somebody else’s show and then churns out a 15-song, two-hour set, there is reason for surprise and excitement. Well that’s exactly what happened in Asbury Park on Saturday night.
Springsteen’s longtime friend Joe Grushecky was performing a show at Asbury Park’s Wonder Bar when, three songs in, Springsteen joined him onstage for the rest of the show. They played songs such as “Adam Raised a Cain,” “Darkness on the Edge of Town,” and, fittingly enough, “Atlantic City.” It’s not quite the epic event most Springsteen concerts are, but if you were just stopping by a bar on a Saturday night and then suddenly one of the biggest stars in rock and roll stopped by to jam for two hours, it would still be a tremendous event.
It has not been a big year for Springsteen, who has been relatively quiet. However, there are rumors that he may be coming out with a new album soon. If he does, he’ll have a couple more songs to add to his usual five hour setlists.
