In the music video for Sia’s “Elastic Heart,” Shia LaBeouf breakdance fights with 12-year-old Maddie Ziegler, though what some consider “just a grown man sparring with a young girl” could easily be misconstrued as “undertones of pedophilia.” Sia has already apologized “to those who feel triggered…My intention was to create some emotional content, not to upset anybody,” and now Funny or Die is having their say, too, by catching a predator.
Chris Hansen is brought in to ask LaBeouf (“LaBeouf”) to have a seat, which is a good premise as is. But the thing I like about this clip is that although it begins with mocking those aforementioned undertones, it ends with a realization: the music video isn’t offensive, like the sentence “Shia LaBeouf stars in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull“; it’s just f*cking weird, like the sentence “Shia LaBeouf stars in Nymphomaniac.”
