Based on the evidence, we can guess two things about Danny Brown‘s upcoming album Atrocity Exhibition. Danny doesn’t do normal, so it’s going to be hella strange. And he doesn’t do half-measures, so it’s going to be great. We’ve already seen the excellent lo-fi footwork horror film “When It Rain,” and now we have another taste of the album with his ScHoolboy Q collab “Pneumonia.”
The track sounds exactly like what you’d expect a ScHoolboy x Danny team-up to sound like. Brown steps fully into the menacing bounce that ScHoolboy tends to favor and leaves it slightly off-kilter, adding clanging pipes and discordant noise to better suit his nasal yawp. It comes off sounding like a ScHoolboy song that was recorded in a warehouse that hasn’t been properly soundproofed.
In short, it’s grimy as hell and if you dig either of the two rappers, you should come away happy. Check it out up top.
Just think, we haven’t even heard the Kendrick Lamar or Earl Sweatshirt tracks yet. And Brown promised that this album is going to be a much more unfiltered version of his singular oddness.
“This album is just my sound. This is Danny Brown,” he said in an interview with Rolling Stone.
Atrocity Exhibition is out on September 30 and it’s going to be insane.
