Drake decided to show up to the latest Toronto Raptors playoff game on Friday night with LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in town, and though the game didn’t go his way at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Drizzy did have a nice moment during halftime.
While the Raptors led at the break, Drake had a chance encounter with Toronto rock legend and Tragically Hip frontman Gord Downie at court side. The Canadian stars met up and Drake immediately reacted by bowing to Downie before the duo embraced with a big hug and shared some words.
Downie, of course, was tragically diagnosed with terminal brain cancer last year, and the band announced the bad news last May. From there they set off on a summer tour, and Downie even released a solo album in October despite his condition.
The Raptors eventually lost the game, and were so miffed that Drake wasn’t allowed into the locker room afterwards, though Drake was invited over for drinks by the victorious LeBron James.
The game didn’t exactly go how the Toronto natives may have hoped, but the embrace between the two Canadian legends is a nice consolation prize for the fans in attendance.
