Back in July, Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder treated the crowd at his show in Portugal to a cover of John Lennon’s “Imagine,” which he called the “most powerful song ever written.” He went on to share his thoughts on what it means to be anti-war, in that it doesn’t mean you’re pro- either side in the battle, but instead “pro-peace, pro-human, pro-evolution,” and many more positive pro- terms. Vedder decided to take things one step further, though, and since we’ve been able to see and hear the cover in the video below, he wanted us to be able to purchase it on iTunes as well.
Except, instead of pocketing that 99 cents for each download and perhaps buying part of his beloved Chicago Cubs or an invisible jet, Vedder is donating the proceeds to HEARTBEAT: Amplifying Youth Voices, which is an organization that gives young Israeli and Palestinian musicians the chance to work on music together, while sharing their efforts with the rest of the world. Just when you think Vedder can’t get any cooler…
