Music fans have been waiting for Frank Ocean’s follow up to Channel Orange for almost half a decade. It’s been teased for ages now, but we still have no real sense of when Ocean’s going to finally release the successor to his seminal 2012 album. One person who has heard some Ocean’s new music, though, is James Blake, and he’s doing nothing to curb the enthusiasm over Ocean’s upcoming album.
Blake released a new album, The Colour in Anything, earlier this year and Ocean worked on the album, with two writing credits to his name. The British singer/songwriter said that Ocean “was a huge influence on the way I was writing the record, the way I was writing melodies.” While working together, Blake got a chance to hear music from Ocean, and he was very enthused by what he heard.
“I was more of a fan of him when I heard his newer music,” said Blake, “It’s better. You grow, you improve, you nail a new message to the board. He’s had time to mature. It’s really cool to watch.” So there you have it. According to James Blake, Frank Ocean’s new album is going to be better than Channel Orange. Adding this to his previous comments on the forthcoming project, anticipation should be at an all-time high. Now, we just need the album to actually, finally arrive.
