Giorgio Moroder Just Turned A My Morning Jacket Song Into A Disco Stomper

It’s fair to say that Giorgio Moroder is relishing his moment in the spotlight. Ever since he was highlighted by his uber-famous fanboys on Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories, the 75-year-old disco titan has kept busy with all sorts of remixes, solo work and touring.

His latest release might be the best thing to come out of his resurgence that wasn’t directly tied to the robots. Moroder took My Morning Jacket’s The Waterfall track “Compound Fracture” and did a remix. (In case you’re wondering, his second-greatest achievement is inspiring this.)

Moroder told Rolling Stone that he made the remix to make people happy.

“The song was great to begin with. There is so much energy in their music that lends itself naturally to the electronic world. The first time I heard the song, I was immediately inspired to add the essence of disco without taking away from the existing melody. This remix will make people smile; make them want to dance.”

Moroder’s been taking full advantage of the recent critical re-evaluation of disco and its influence. People are more open to the kind of tunes that Moroder puts out than they have been in a while. And that’s a good thing, because it gets us tracks like the one up top.

Here’s the original tune, for comparison purposes:
