Hard-working fashion dad Kanye West is a force of nature. Unfortunately for attendees of New York City’s Governors Ball, it turns out nature itself is also a force of nature.
Severe weather with the potential for lightning strikes in the area has prompted organizers of the festival to play it safe and cancel Day 3 of the standing and looking at musicians music-it-up hootenanny. It was a scenario attendees were warned about late last night and the bummer news arrived this morning.

This is understandably very disappointing news for festivalgoers hoping to catch acts like Kanye, CHVRCHES and Prophets of Rage to close out the festival. (Mind you, if you live in the New York City area, you can’t really moan about artists not coming to town.) “We are just as devastated as you,” said organizers in a statement on the cancelation.
“Sunday, June 5th of Gov Ball 2016 has officially been cancelled, due to severe weather and a high likelihood of lightning in the area. The safety of fans, artists and crew always comes first.
All customers who purchased a Sunday ticket and Sunday transportation ticket through the Gov Ball ticketing page will receive a refund (including fees and shipping, if applicable) directly to the account used to purchase. All customers who purchased a 3-Day Pass and 3-Day Transportation pass directly through the Gov Ball Ticketing page will receive a partial/pro-rated refund (including fees and shipping, if applicable) directly to the account used to purchase.”
Feel free to begin compiling your conspiracy theories about how Panorama deployed a weather machine to mess with their rival festival. Or better yet, set a reminder that UPROXX music writer/editor extraordinaire Michael Depland will have a report tomorrow on what Governors Ball brought to the table in 2016.
