Gucci Mane has been one of the most high-profile proponents of Atlanta’s youth movement, giving many of the city’s newcomers his OG seal of approval by appearing on their songs and videos with sparkling guest verses. While many of rap’s pioneers and old heads seem preoccupied with preserving the styles they created, Gucci is lending his star status to up-and-comers like Quality Control’s Lil Baby and Marlo, appearing on their Quality Control, Vol. 1 standout “The Load.”
The premise is pretty simple: Gucci, Marlo, and Baby are waiting for a driver on a warehouse’s loading dock awaiting a shipment of goods that have been delayed. In the course of performing their typically stunt-tastic verses, they show off their bling, make threats, and lament the loss of product to snoopy highway police.
The Quality Control label had a busy 2017 and looks to build on their momentum with an equally packed 2018. Upcoming albums from established QC stars like Lil Yachty and Migos will bolster the label’s burgeoning mainstream profile and give a leg up to other incoming stars like Lil Baby, Marlo, and Rich The Kid.
Meanwhile, Gucci Mane has spent his year since leaving prison on an extended come up, marrying his longtime boo Keyshia Ka’oir, becoming a published author, and dropping a seemingly endless string of albums.
