On Thursday, Gwen Stefani announced This is What the Truth Feels Like…, her first solo album in a decade. Beyond the Gavin Rossdale divorce-anthem “Used To Love You,” no one really knew how this album was going to sound. Yet longtime Stefani fans can take heart knowing that it won’t be all doom and gloom. Stefani just released “Make Me Like You,” an kind of ode to her new love Blake Shelton with all the appropriate bounce.
Stefani is clearly aiming for people who liked her earlier work. There’s not a touch of “Hollaback Girl” or “Wind It Up” on this track. It’s all breezy guitar strums and beachy melodies that recall ’90s hits like The Cardigans’ “Lovefool” and Stefani’s own string of hits in with No Doubt.
Stefani is pushing this single pretty heavily, and will perform the first ever “live music video” around the track at the 2016 Grammys. Her fans have been gushing over the track on Twitter, but the most important “atta girl” of all came from Shelton himself.
He posted a picture of the track and urged his fans to buy it.
You can probably understand the multiple reasons why I just bought this… I hope you do to!!! @gwenstefani pic.twitter.com/AUkHCqhlv8
