Remember that insanely talented guy who performed one song with 29 insanely on-point celebrity impressions? Well, dang it, we should’ve known it was too good to be true. Turns out the whole video was a hoax!
While musician Rob Cantor did in fact pen the original song “Perfect,” he had no hand whatsoever in the actual impressions, which included Jack Black, Gollum, Gwen Stefani, and Shakira. In actuality, it was the talent of a group of vocally-gifted professionals, as well as a sound designer and mixer. Cantor revealed the news this afternoon along with the above “making of” video which details all the work — and there was a lot — that went into the viral gimmick.
Le sigh. As Ashton Kutcher circa 2004 would’ve said, we just got punk’d.
