Ice Cube Brings Out N.W.A. And Kendrick Lamar In A Cameo-Packed Coachella Performance

Good ol’ Weekend 2 of Coachella. The overlooked twin of Indio’s annual shindig doesn’t have the same sparkle in the press when it comes to its smörgåsbord of acts and assorted desert funzos, but it can still serve up some big moments even without the surplus of celebrities that descend on Weekend 1. Ice Cube knows this and he put his impressive contact list to work on Saturday night.

Cube’s Weekend 1 set featured no shortage of star power with Snoop Dogg, Common and O’Shea Jackson Jr among those hitting the stage. Fellow N.W.A. alums MC Ren and DJ Yella made their presence felt in Weekend 1, but last night’s performance added Dr. Dre to the equation and the crowd understandably became unglued. Did Cube ask if there was “a motherf*cking doctor in the house?” You’re damn right he did. (Does your insurance cover Dr. Dre appearances? Consult with your agent today!) That led to performances of non-N.W.A. (but still welcome) tracks “Still D.R.E.” and “California Love” to the adoration of the crowd.

The surprises didn’t end there. Noted big deal Kendrick Lamar also popped by join the festivities. A ravenously received performance of “Alright” added an exclamation point to the evening and upped the degree of difficulty rating for the evening’s headliners Guns N’ Roses.
