Following a lengthy legal battle with former record label Blackground Records, JoJo of “Leave (Get Out)” and “Too Little Too Late” fame is finally set to release her first album on Atlantic Records, Mad Love, on October 14. Today she debuted the title track at Vogue and her powerful voice makes heartbreak almost sound appealing. Backed by classic R&B and soul production, she sings about still wanting to be in a relationship even though it’s not good for her.
JoJo said the track was inspired by a recent break-up which occurred just as she hit the studio to begin recording the album. “Sometimes the emotions [in a relationship] are so strong that you stay in it because it’s so exhilarating,” the 25-year-old singer said. “What you get from it is passion and crazy and intensity, even though it might not be good for you. It’s so abundant, it’s so strong, and it’s what you’re used to and what you end up craving.”
Mad Love will be available for pre-order via iTunes starting on Friday, September 16. Currently known guest appearances include Alessia Cara and Wiz Khalifa, who’s featured on the first single, “F*ck Apologies.” Based on the singles released so far, the album should be one of the fall release highlights.
