Starting back in 2014, Polyvinyl Records has been running a little DIY experiment in which they have artists self-record on a 4-track cassette recorder and then pass it on to another artist to record something of their own. In this past, this 4-track singles series, has featured music from artists like Diet Cig, Beach Slang, Mothers, Beach Slang, Twin Peaks, Modern Baseball, and Japanese Breakfast.
Today, Joyce Manor‘s new track called “NBTSA,” aka “Never Be The Same Again,” is the newest addition to Polyvinyl’s series. Listen to the single in full above via Stereogum.
The California post-punkers dive right back into their signature sound with this fast-paced, upbeat track as the first new music since their critically-acclaimed album Cody, which came out last October. The band has been gaining a lot of attention as a result of their fourth record and they might “never be the same again.” But with the choice to participate in this self-recorded cassette series, Joyce Manor reminds listeners with the fuzzy “NBTSA” of their beloved roots in the DIY punk rock scene.
Joyce Manor will be on a UK tour with Martha in July. See the dates below.
