It didn’t take Kanye long to follow up on Kim’s announcement that new music was on the way today. Two tracks have hit the web, “Real Friends” and “No More Parties in L.A.,” and it’s safe to say they both sound a lot like the Kanye most fans enjoy hearing.
“Real Friends” finds ‘Ye delving into the dynamics of relationships, specifically the strain that fame can create. Ty Dolla $ign’s on the assist, adding in a bit of smooth crooning to an already melodic cut as Kanye displays honesty and humility: “Who your real friends? We all came from the bottom, I’m always blamin’ you, but what’s sad, you’re not the problem.” Kendrick Lamar comes through on the assist for “No More Parties in L.A.,” the more lighthearted of the two new numbers. The title’s self-explanatory as Yeezy and K.Dot go back and forth about their Hollywood exploits.
Neither of songs go too far outside the norm, which may be a good thing at this point. Kanye’s experimental tendencies have left many wondering if the guy they knew from the pink Polo days still lived inside current day ‘Ye. While we can’t ignore the “Facts” associated with most of the music we’ve heard in the So Help Me God/Swish era, “Friends…” and “No More…” provide hope that Kanye’s got good things in store for his next album.
Ye has been giving fans a conniption fit by constantly taking the track on and off of SoundCloud. If the player above isn’t working, just stream it from his website.
Update: Kanye’s decided that today’s the day to share everything with the world. “Everything” now includes the release date for SWISH. Check out the news here.
