Katy Perry’s Met Gala Look Has People Drawing Otherworldly Comparisons

Katy Perry has had a rather eventful last couple of weeks. Following up the release of her early single “Chained To The Rhythm,” which got a decidedly dystopian video, and the release of her follow-up track, the Migos-featuring, meme-sparking “Bon Appétit.”

As if all that wasn’t enough, then there was the weirdly off-putting Barack Obama/black hair color comment over the weekend, and The Weeknd producer Mano’s reminder of the time she allegedly thought repeatedly calling him and his friends the N-word was just fine. Wow, what a week!

Now, Perry is on to the Met Gala, which she is co-chairing with Pharrell — and his wife, who is rocking a very on-theme dress — and her all-red look is inspiring quite a few reactions of its own. Mostly, people think she looks pretty fierce, but like, in the most off-kilter way ever. Then again, that’s a pretty good summary of what the theme for this year is, aka Rei Kawakubo’s “the Art of the In-Between.” From Beetlejuice, to a video game boss, to Tim Burton imagery, check out Twitter’s reaction to Katy Perry’s look. A careful watcher will also notice her headgear spells out “witness,” which is probably the name of her next single.
