The BET cyphers are an annual tradition of hip-hop excellence. Some of the biggest names in rap have taken their turn and spit some bars for the show and this year they locked down two massive names who have never joined in on the fun. DJ Drama made a special appearance to announce Lil Wayne and rattled off all of his accolades in music including selling over 80 million records, and Kevin Hart’s rap alter-ego Chocolate Droppa who, as Drama put it “hasn’t done a damn thing.”
One thing is clear, Lil Wayne may be in the middle of a second prime because he absolutely went off. His latest spree has lasted for well over a year and doesn’t look to be stopping anytime soon. He kicked the “battle” off with a string of bars that invoked memories his 2007-08 mixtape prime. On top of that he was a good sport with the reactions and ad-libs during Droppa’s verse. It all worked, and as funny as Hart can be it’s even a little bit funnier since we can see he’s shorter than Lil Wayne, who is already short enough.
It was all in good fun though and since Hart buys into the Droppa joke so convincingly it’s worth a watch.
