Little Monsters can finally rejoice knowing that Lady Gaga will soon be back with her fifth solo album. While appearing on Beats 1 Radio with Zane Lowe on Thursday, Gaga announced that her forthcoming LP will be known simply as… Joanne.
The reason behind the name? She revealed that it’s named for her late aunt, Joanne Germanotta, who tragically passed away at the age of 19 due to complications from Lupus — she also shares her middle name with the late family member. Gaga never met her Aunt Joanne, but she’s been featured in her work before, with a poem of Joanne’s making it into the booklet of her debut, The Fame.
And in addition to the album’s name, Mother Monster also released the album art and a release date.

Of course, some of us didn’t know the backstory behind Gaga’s aunt. And for those who didn’t, the internet came up with the perfect explanation for whom the new LP could be named.
