Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been out for less than a week, so it’s prime time to start talking about Episode VIII casting decisions. After a social media exchange between the official Star Wars Twitter account and Against Me!’s lead singer Laura Jane Grace, fans of Grace are petitioning to have her cast in the Force Awakens follow-up.
It all started when Grace posted a photo of herself in a Kylo Ren mask to Instagram.
Grace then tweeted at the Star Wars account that she had to buy the mask, which prompted them to reply with a play on a song from Against Me!’s last album.

Fans took the ball and ran with it, starting a petition to get LJG cast. The petition currently has just over 6,000 signatures. Grace responded to the attention by proving her Star Wars (and punk rock) bonafides.

Laura also talked to Fast Company about first falling for Star Wars after seeing Return of the Jedi as a 3-year-old.
“I still to this day have my original Star Wars action figures that my parents gave to me for Christmas that year,” she said, before praising the Star Wars social media team for their work. “It always impresses me when someone is actually listening. I felt like I was tweeting with the Force.”
