Tyga was a free agent for over a year up until last week when he joined G.O.O.D. Music, but Lil Wayne has his own opinion on the situation. According to TMZ, Wayne would have never allowed Tyga to leave Young Money, yet the decision happen without his input.
This situation just adds to the growing tension between Lil Wayne and Birdman as he was the one who made the choice to let Tyga walk away from his contract with Young Money. However, Lil Wayne reportedly has 49% of YM and feels like his signature should’ve been required for Tyga to be free.
The fact that Birdman has more ownership stake in Young Money doesn’t necessarily equate to more power. It’s complicated because Tyga, who’s voiced his displeasure with the label loudly, was able to walk away and there’s been no legal problems with him that we’ve seen. Lil Wayne could just be piling it on with his huge Cash Money lawsuit as more evidence to leave Cash Money’s death grip.
In releasing Tyga, Birdman apparently felt like the “Coconut Juice” rapper wasn’t an asset to Young Money anymore. That seems like the only scenario to make sense, otherwise we’d be having Nicki and Drake trying to leave as well. They could be, too, but the situation gets sticky because Birdman isn’t going to let two huge stars walk away. That’s why the Lil Wayne issues are so deeply rooted. Bird refuses to let everyone walk away when he can still profit off of them.
Even though Lil Wayne might be mad, Tyga is better off in the hands of G.O.O.D. Music where he’s given the chance to develop further with Kanye and Pusha T.
