No matter how big the star, the death of David Bowie truly impacted everyone. Whether you’re a legendary producer like Brian Eno, a late-nite TV king like Conan O’Brien, or even someone in the beginning of their career like Lorde, you have a David Bowie story you hold close to your heart.
The “Royals” singer talked about her encounter with Bowie at “an expensive Vogue benefit” in her recent Facebook post, and like most stories involving the Thin White Duke, he was a sight to behold.
Lorde shares the same feelings we all have about meeting our heroes. On one hand, they could end up being something other than what we expected. On the other hand, though, sometimes meeting your hero is the best experience of your life, which seemed to be the case for the young New Zealand singer;
“I’ve never met a hero of mine and liked it. It just sucks, the pressure is too huge, you can’t enjoy it. David was different.”
Just like every other fan of Bowie’s, Lorde had felt proud of her weirdness or “spiky strangeness” because her hero David Bowie “had been proud of his.” Check out Lorde’s full account of their chance meeting below.
