According to Billboard, Miley Cyrus’ next album won’t be a Miley Cyrus album at all. Apparently, Miley is planning on following up Bangerz with her long-in-the-works collaboration with The Flaming Lips.
This comes from an unnamed “source close to the singer,” so take it with a grain of salt, but here’s what they said about Miley’s plans.
“It’s not a Miley record. It’s a project she’s been working on with the Flaming Lips. It’s amazing, it’s incredible, it just needs to be understood that it’s not a typical, straightforward Miley record — we don’t want there to be confusion in the marketplace.”
The anonymous source described the new album as half pop, half psych and all Miley.
“It is somewhat psychedelic rock, but Miley’s writing sensibilities lean toward pop, so it’s a nice, healthy mix of both. But at the end of the day, it is Miley.”
The source also added that the album is meant to function as a whole and not “a collection of songs.”
“[The album is] a throwback to a time when people released [albums] that were synergistic and not just a collection of songs. She’s super-excited about it. The Flaming Lips are her favorite band and she’s wanted to work with them her entire life. I think people are really going to be surprised.”
Miley Cyrus is set to host the VMAs later this week, so maybe we’ll learn more about it then.
