When Dave Grohl announced that Foo Fighters would have to cancel some shows after he broke his leg, it was met with a fair amount of disappointment. The news that Nickelback is canceling the rest of their No Fixed Address tour will result in… a lot less disappointment. However, before all you Nickelback haters out there get too hopped up on schadenfreude, wait until you find out why the tour has to be canceled. Singer Chad Kroeger has to have emergency surgery on a cyst in his vocal cord.
“I am sorry I have to interrupt the party this summer, and I am definitely not thrilled with the prospect of being silent for many weeks to come when I could be out there playing for our fans,” said Kroeger via a press release. Doctors have said that he needs to rest his vocal cords for three works, which means anybody living in North America hoping to see Nickelback is out of luck. However, it’s expected that they will return to action for the first show of their European tour, which takes place September 30 in Helsinki, Finland.
Look, Nickelback are the punching bag to end all punching bags when it comes to music, and that reputation is not necessarily unearned. Still, when health issues rear their ugly head like this, it’s always a shame. Hopefully Kroeger can get back to full health and quickly return to singing all those songs that you hate.
