In a move that would have made heads explode during UGK’s heyday, Pimp C is on a track with Nas and Juicy J.
It’s actually a bit surprising, even in 2015, if only for the fact that Pimp C has been dead since 2007. “Friends” is the latest track from Long Live the Pimp, a posthumous collection that pairs Pimp C verses from the vault with new verses from A-list rappers. “Friends” isn’t quite as country-fried as UGK classics like “Pocket Full of Stones” (and the mix is a little off, with Juicy J and Nas coming in much louder than Pimp C), but the long, drawling pronunciation of the track’s title leaves no doubt who you are listening to.
“Friends” follows the Lil Wayne collab “3 Way Freak” which was released earlier this month.
The album, put together by Pimp C’s widow Chinara Butler, will also include verses from T.I., A$AP Rocky, Ty Dolla $ign, Bun B, Devin the Dude and others. Long Live the Pimp drops on December 4 via Mass Appeal Records.
