Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping looks more and more awesome with each passing day. The trailers just keep upping the level of gleeful idiocy and the list of actual musicians willing to appear keeps growing longer. The latest confirmed stars include RZA, Justin Timberlake and Nas.
Also added to the impossibly long list of cameos are Mariah Carey, A$AP Rocky, P!nk, Danger Mouse, Ringo Starr and Arcade Fire members Win Butler and Régine Chassagne. Keep in mind this is a movie that has already confirmed appearances by Usher, DJ Khaled, Questlove, Snoop Dogg, Adam Levine and Joanna Newsom.
The Lonely Island members discussed a bit of what it’s like to hobnob with so many A-listers in their interview on Sway In The Morning. The trio revealed that it’s difficult when they are sent beats from respected producers for them to make joke-raps about premature ejaculation over.
“We once got sent beats from RZA, which was crazy.” Andy Samberg said, “They were super, like, experimental. They were very, like, atonal and weird, and we were like, ‘We don’t know how to make this funny, but it’s dope.’”
Akiva Schaffer added that they were once sent an unused J Dilla beat and had to decline for fear of not doing it justice.
“They sent us a Dilla beat, and we were like, ‘Oh my God, we can’t ruin a Dilla beat!’” he said, adding that “people will hate us if we do that.”
