Not that anyone with two ears and a heart needs to be told this, but Prince was a big deal. Like, such a huge deal that people had trouble thinking of him as a mortal man, instead of a musical deity. If Prince’s huge-ness was somehow in doubt, we have this to consider: even President of the United States Barack Obama took time to remark on Prince’s passing.
“Today, we lost a creative icon,” said Obama in a press release. “Michelle and I join millions of others in mourning the sudden death of Prince. Few artists have influenced the sound and trajectory of popular music more distinctly, or touched quite so many people with their talent.”
POTUS goes on to share a Prince quote that’s making the rounds today: “A strong spirit transcends rules.”
While he’s probably got better things to do with his time, I’d like to think that President Obama, like the rest of us, went into the dregs of the internet to find his favorite Prince song posted just out of the reach of takedown notices. If you haven’t found one of your own yet, we suggest this concert with James Brown, Michael Jackson and Prince all sharing the same stage.
